I am grateful for such awesome friends! And to those of you not celabrating turkey ham, happy regular day! PIE UPDATE: As it turned out, I needed both potatoes for the pie, and they ended up being boiled. But man oh man. I haven't tasted the finished result (which is lovely!), but I could have eaten the pie filling all by itself! It should be pretty tasty. Anyway. A good day to all. Don't forget the pie! [Nov. 25th, 2009|12:34 pm] the_reverand [ Tags | food, my flist is the best flist ] Oh esteemed flist! I face a dilemma! I want to make a sweet potato pie. I've never made one before! I got a recipe online which calls for boiling whole potatoes. Another suggests I boil cut-up potatoes, and my mother says not to boil them at all but to bake them, as boiling increases water content. I would default to my mom's advice but I don't recall her ever making sweet potato pie. So. To boil or not to boil? That is the question. Other online recipes confuse the matter further by simply calling for "cooked, mashed sweet potatoes" with no clue as to how to get them that way. This is made even worse by the endless variation of ingredients including a simple pecan topping, yogurt, and I kid you not!, tomato soup! link 1 comment|post comment

Modern Adventures [Nov. 21st, 2009|04:48 pm] the_reverand [ Tags | fit 2009, personal, running ] ( Adventures in Eyecare ) In adventures of the shoewear variety, I found new running shoes! Not perfect but at this point I'll take what I can get. I haven't been running in a month because of it. I hope I continue to like them. Nope! Other than that, I found a nifty patterned shirt, mostly grey and yellow, to add to my collection of awesome clothes which could also be upholstery. Also, pants. T-Rex is right. [Nov. 20th, 2009|12:38 pm] the_reverand [ Tags | dinosaur comics, important internet tools for fun and saf, t-rex ] We need a duress phrase! For times when perhaps I am being made to post to my journal under threat to my person! Something ridiculous and unlikely. Perhaps!: "Could someone record American Idol for me?" "I really hope Brittney's new album is a chart-topping success!" "I'm really sick of Viggo, he's so unattractive and uninteresting." "Congratulate me! I'm getting married!" "And in conclusion, spandex." Others? That last one was going to be about being with-child but after I typed the p-word I felt a little sick. The absolute in not-funny phrases! Don't forget to make your own and let your flist know! The Captain and I need one, too. Trouble is, we will be tempted to use it under times of non-duress because it will be funny!, completely stripping it of its unique purpose. So we will need a duress phrase as well as a "no, really, I'm actually under duress this time" phrase, for those frequent occasions when thugs with guns force us to make phonecalls demanding that the other pick up milk on their way home when, in fact, WE DON'T NEED MILK. Things I'd Like [Nov. 20th, 2009|09:47 am] the_reverand [ Tags | movies, personal, the mighty boosh ] I watched The Brothers Bloom the other night and I'd quite like to cuddle Adrien Brody until the end of time. This is really not a new thing, though. I'd like to read a Boosh!fic in which( ... Egypt! ) I'd like for my Future Sailors and Darkplace dvds to arrive tonight! (By Royal Mail! To be delivered by gents in armour with crests riding white horses with plumes on their heads.) I'd like tea. I'd like to host a big music sharing post but I fear it would just be me uploading a bunch of albums no one wants to hear! I'd like for Lenscrafters to have my lenses when I go for an exam tomorrow(they never do!)! I'd like to take Access classes so that I can be a better d-base programmer and use my skills for freelance monies of awesome! That's enough for now. Except that I wouldn't mind seeing other "things I'd like" posts on my flist! Funny how it started so simple and fannish and ended up on monies and real life. link post comment

First one is story_arc Everyone has seen the various prompt communities. This one is for the writing/drawing of story arcs, or a multi-chaptered fic/picture series. Using the prompts, you work all of them into a single universe, as series of stories or artwork that relate to each other. Or, alternatively, into a single story, each prompt being used for a single chapter. To some, that'll be easy. To others, it's a lot more challenging. You get a pick of prompts, and we welcome claims of all types. Pairings, threesomes/moresomes, single people, over all fandoms. Collaborations are welcomed, though we request that both parties join the com. The second is mix_n_make Everyone has that song that reminds them of a person, a fandom, a story or art idea just waiting to come forth. Well, here at Mix n Make, we not only share that feeling, we encourage you to make the image in your brain a reality. The goal: Make a playlist and write/draw what each song inspires of you. They can be as short as three songs, or as long as you want to make them. Not only can you share your favorite songs, but you can get those bunnies out of your brains and shared with the rest of us.
